Week of April 17-21, 2023
Happy Friday Trailblazer families,
As we return from Spring Break, one of the routines we will be doing is reteaching our LEAD (Trailblazers are Listeners, Empathetic, Accountable, and Disciplined) school-wide expectations for our common areas. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be reviewing what it looks like to LEAD in the Cafeteria, Bathrooms, Library, during Recess, Assemblies/Rallies, and Before/After school.
In addition, during the week of April 24th-28th, we will begin with two lessons from the PBIS Bully Prevention Curriculum. Just like we teach our students the behavior and routines expected in our common areas, through these lessons, we can equip our students with the necessary tools to communicate when they are experiencing unwanted behavior. If you would like to learn more about these lessons, please click HERE for additional information.
What can you do at home to help support this new learning with your child? As we learn these new tools during the week of April 24th-28th, this would be a great time to have an open conversation with your child. Discuss the 3 steps they have learned Enough, Walk, and Talk and how they are empowered to let other students know when they are experiencing any unwanted behavior.
One thing I do want to emphasize is that in the first lesson, we do specifically talk to the students that if they feel they are in danger, the “enough” and “walk away” steps should be skipped, and you should go straight to an adult. Please encourage your child to report to their teacher or other staff member any activity they feel threatens their safety, or the safety of our school.
As a staff we continue to review our safety protocols and they will continue to be a primary focus as we enter into our next school year. If your child ever brings a concern to you at home, please reach out to me immediately. Working together we can ensure our school remains safe and welcoming for students and staff. Thank you for your continued partnership in our Trailblazer family!
