WEEKLY NEWS

Hello Diamond Creek Families!

We had our first Village Meeting this week! Students were able to meet and greet students in their Village.  We learned new names, welcomed new teammates to our Villages and practiced our Village chants! We are working very hard on giving eyeballs and handshakes and responding to people when they ask us questions.  Hopefully you are noticing these behaviors at home as well!

Our 15th Annual Walk-a-Thon is THIS WEEK!! THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th!! Thank you all for your support at home with this fundraiser.   In the past our Walk-a-Thon has helped us buy Chromebook Carts, iPads and outfit every classroom at Diamond Creek with Apple TVs and 72 inch TVs for projection.  Last year, our Walk-a-Thon also helped us launch our Villages system building wide and we are so excited to continue this great work at Diamond Creek!  Thank you for your support.

ATTENDANCE
Absences and tardies affect the learning of all students on campus. Please ensure that students are at school and on time each and every day. Consistent attendance is a key factor in your child’s success at school. Please make every effort to schedule appointments before/after school and vacations during school breaks.
Students are required to attend school on a daily basis and remain in school the entire instructional day. Absences are only excused for health reasons, attendance at a family member’s funeral (one day in California and two days out of state or country), court appearances, or religious holidays.
If your child is absent from school you must call the attendance line or notify office personnel of the absence and reason for absence. If a student is absent for 15 days or more for illness in a school year, further absences will need to be verified by a physician. Excessive unexcused absences will be reported to the Student Attendance Review Board. Per district practice, you will be notified via Truancy letters if excess absences are occurring.
Students must arrive at school on time. Please check your child’s arrival time and help him/her to be at school on time. Children who arrive on campus after the official start time will be regarded as tardy. Tardy students must report to the office for a tardy pass before going to class. Tardy students disrupt instruction for their classmates, in addition to creating a hardship for themselves and their teachers. If your child arrives late to school for any reason, please come into the school office for a tardy slip.
INDEPENDENT STUDY CONTRACTS
Students who are going to be out of school for five or more days may be eligible for independent study. Independent Study Contract’s length is not to exceed fifteen (15) school days. There is a specific set of district criteria for independent study. This program requires a contract signed by the parent, student, teacher and administrator. The contract specifies the amount of work to be completed, the amount of time to be spent each day, when the work will be turned in to the teacher and how the work will be evaluated. An independent study contract must be requested more than three days prior to a planned absence so that teachers can prepare materials for the student. Independent Study forms are available in the school office.
Please be thoughtful in taking time away from the classroom setting. Students often fall behind and feel that they have a difficult time keeping current with lessons when they take an independent study. We realize that at times it cannot be avoided, yet we do request that independent study contracts be kept at a minimum.

15th ANNUAL WALK-A-THON - SEPTEMBER 12, 2019
Our 15th Annual Walk-a-Thon will be on Thursday, September 12th from 9:30-11:30am at Diamond Creek Elementary.

We are in need of some amazing parent/family volunteers for our event, because with the fabulous volunteers, we couldn't put on this awesome fundraiser for the kids.

Please CLICK HERE for our Sign-Up Genius that has a list of all the available volunteer positions available.Your child will come home with a donation envelope this Friday from school.  On this envelope were instructions on how your child can collect donations.  The envelope itself is for collecting cash and check donations.  The instruction sheet for 99 Pledges is our online collection service for all credit card donations.  It takes only about 5 seconds to create a personal donation page for your child that is linked to the school's Fundraiser page.  Once you have it created, you can share your child's personal donation page with all your friends and family on Facebook, Twitter or by email.

Here is a link to our 99 Pledges Fundraiser page where you can add your child.

We will be keeping track of our Top 5 Classes throughout our pledge/donation time with 99 Pledges.
The class with the highest donation collection at the end of the Walk-a-Thon will win a class party.

Thank you so much parents and Diamond Creek Families!

ROCK YOUR SCHOOL DAY!!!
We are SO EXCITED to announce that on SEPTEMBER 19, 2019 DIAMOND CREEK will be ROCKIN OUR SCHOOL! This is a day that schools across our nation are participating in and we are so pumped to be part of this day this year! We will be kicking off the day with a special rally followed by hours of meaningful, rigorous learning for our students. Our students will have the opportunity to visit some of our classrooms on this day that will be transformed into a glow room, medical room, a Book Cafe and more! We will be doing lots of learning and using our environment to engage learners at high levels! More details to come - we can't wait! We are also making this a ROCKSTAR Spirit Day - students can dress like Rockstars if they choose!

CALLING ALL OF OUR FATHERS AND FATHER FIGURES! WATCH D.O.G.S. is a National school based, community engagement organization that schools all across our country participate in each year.  Our goal of WATCH D.O.G.S. at Diamond Creek is to invite our father figures (dads, grandpas, uncles, positive male role models, etc.) on to our site and support our students and safety on campus.  We will be kicking off this amazing program on Thursday, September 26th from 5-6 PM at Diamond Creek. Join us for some pizza and information about how to get involved in this great program.
