Week of February 13-17

What's Coming Up This Week? February 13-17
This week we celebrated 100 days of school on Wednesday.  Our students are feeling 100 days smarter and are truly showing this in their learning.  It is so fun to be in classrooms and watching them engaged in reading, explaining their thinking to peers and using technology to enhance their learning.  Our students are working hard and they are enjoying the collaborative time with their peers as well.  Enjoy this three day weekend and hopefully some sunshine!

Upcoming Dates:
2/13 No School
2/15 Dine & Donate - The Habit 4:00-Close
2/20 No School
3/8 Site Council Meeting 3:30 PM
3/12 Mother/Son Bowling
3/14 Dine & Donate - Blaze
3/20 Skate Night 6:00-8:00 PM

Attendance
Attendance is very important to us at Diamond Creek. Students miss valuable instructional time when they are absent from school.   Did you know?

• Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.

Fall Festival
Our amazing PTC plans wonderful events for our Diamond Creek families throughout the school year.  One of those events that has been a long standing Diamond Creek tradition is our Fall Festival. Our Fall Festival is not a fundraiser, but an evening to bring our community together for fun, games and food.  Without the help of volunteers we are not able to put on events such as the Fall Festival. We are looking for a person interested in being the chair person for this event next year.  Without a leader for this event, the Fall Festival will not happen.  Please let our PTC or myself know if you are interested. Thank you

Morning Safety Patrol
We now have some 4th and 5th grade students who are helping us with our bus loop in the mornings.  They will have orange vests on and be standing in the large bus loop.  Please pull up all the way to the end of the loop when entering and our 4th and 5th graders will help open doors and greet your students.  This allows the students to hop right out so that you as a driver can continue moving through the bus loop.  Please remember to always form one line in the bus loop, we have been close to some accidents from cars trying to go around cars.  Please wait in line for your turn to pull up, do not form another line to go around cars. We want to make sure to keep our students safe, please drive slow and use patience in the bus loops.
