Week of January 4-8
We wish you a wonderful winter break with your family. We hope our students enjoy their days off and find many happy memories throughout this time. Students are off through January 4th and will return on January 5th.
We had a Village Rally this past week. Our students began learning and reviewing Habit #4: I am Mindful of Others. The essentials we are focusing on right now are being mindful of body language and tone of voice as well as responding to others respectfully. We talked about how our body language, eye contact, and tone of voice play a role in how others perceive us and our responses. Since we are wearing masks so much these days, we talked about waving to others as a greeting because people can't always see our smiles behind our masks.
The Annual Household Eligibility Form (or Free and Reduced Meal program) is more important than you might think.
The Free Meal Program typically provides assistance to those who qualify, and even though meals are free for all students for this school year, we are asking you to please take a moment and fill out Annual Household Eligibility Form online at https://www.rcsdk8.org/annual-household-eligibility-form. The application is due by December 15, 2020.
By taking time to fill out this form, it allows our District to potentially capture funds lost by the lack of forms filled out to date. If you have already completed a Meal Application for the 2020-2021 school year, please also complete this form.
The number of students that qualify for the Free and Reduced Meal program impacts many services and programs that RCSD offers families.
Our students and schools are at risk of losing 23% of the supplemental grant funding that supports those programs due to the lack of applications submitted to date.
This 1-minute video explains more about the form and the funding that goes along with this form.
The supplemental grant supports:
Mental & Health Services - help fund school counselors and health aides.
Class size reduction - help fund smaller class sizes in Transitional Kindergarten and 4-5 grades.
Foster youth and homeless services - help fund resources for both foster youth students and students experiencing homelessness.
Music & Elementary PE - funds a portion of the teachers’ salaries for these programs.
AVID and IB programs - help to fund school sites that have AVID and IB programs.
Technology - help to ensure students and staff have internet connectivity.
Intervention Services - help fund staffing for intervention teachers and other intervention support providers.
World Language Program - help fund world language teachers at all four of our middle schools.
We appreciate your time and continued support.
Thank you,
The Roseville City School District
