Week of November 7-11, 2022

 Happy Friday Trailblazer families,

Happy November to everyone!  We had a great time participating in Rock Your School on Thursday and Friday!  Students were able to participate in special activities such as The Glow Room, StarBOOKs, pretend to work in the Medical Field, and explore our new Maker Space.  We transformed a couple rooms and also created mobile carts to bring some experiences to the student’s own classrooms.  Many thanks to the PBIS Village team for planning this year’s Rock Your School and to the families who donated supplies for our room experiences.

We had an amazing Village Meeting today created by our Tawalihape Village about solving problems and knowing who we can go to for help.  The students enjoyed meeting with their Villages, listening to the story Giraffe Asks for Help by Nyasha Chikowore, and sharing who they can always rely on for help both inside and outside of school.  Thank you to the Tawalihape Village Leaders for planning such a fantastic meeting, we appreciate you!

DISTRICT EMAIL ABOUT REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCE WEEK

In case you missed it, here is a copy of the email that was sent to RCSD families this week…

Hello RCSD Families,

We wanted to remind families that the week of November 14-18th is Parent/Teacher conference week for our elementary schools. These conferences are a valuable way for us to communicate and collaborate with you on your child's progress. Your school site will be sending out additional details regarding how to schedule conferences and the release time for those days.

When assessing student work and progress, RCSD elementary schools no longer use the language of Limited, Basic, and Target. The terms, Beginning, Approaching, and Proficient will be used going forward. We have also made some updates to the elementary learning behavior standards.

You can find grade-level-specific parent guides in English and Spanish using the link below. The grade-level-specific guides overview essential standards, learning behaviors, and ideas for how to support at home. There is a sample report card linked on each grade level guide after the Learning Behavior section in the document.

The 3-minute video below explains the upcoming changes as well as the reasoning behind the decision for these updates.

Thank you for your partnership, and we look forward to seeing you at conferences for Parent/Teacher conference week.

FENCE UPDATE

Here is the latest update on our Fence Project on our Upper Grade Playground from District Maintenance and Facilities. We are currently awaiting our custom gate to be completed and powder-coated.  Once this is complete the final piece of our fence will be put in place.  The extra time for this process was not initially anticipated and I appreciate your continued patience and flexibility with drop off and pick up.  As soon as the project is completed, we will open up this campus access point once again.
