Week of December 9-13
WEEKLY NEWS
We had a great week back after break. Students were all smiles and happy to see their friends and teachers. We hope you had a wonderful week with family and friends.
Over the next few weeks, all of our students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will have a chance to visit our Amazing Animals room. This is an extension activity that is brought to us by our wonderful PTC. Students are able to learn about a variety of animals and even get up close and personal with lizards, snakes, birds, frogs and more! Our students truly love this experience and we thank our PTC for making this happen for our kids.
This week during our Village meeting, students reviewed Habit #2: Know Before You Do. We discussed making mistakes and how that is ok! The most important part of a mistake is that we learn from it and move on! We also discussed goal setting and goals that we have for both school and home. Students created a book mark with one school goal and one home goal. Make sure to ask your child about their home goal!

PARKING LOT SAFETY - Please read through these important reminders as we head into rainy season!!
When dropping off and picking up students please remember these important safety reminders. This is to ensure our students at Diamond Creek are safe.
1. Both our small and large loops are drop off loops only. These are not areas to park. Please stay in your car and drop your child off if you are going through the loop. If you need to park and get out of your car, please park in our parking lot or on the street.
2. Stay off of cell phones while driving through our bus loops.
3. When pulling in to the loop, pull all the way up. Stopping in the middle of our loops stops the rest of our traffic from being able to move through quickly and safely.
4. Please use the crosswalk areas to walk onto campus. Walking through our bus loops is not safe. We have safety patrol specifically set up to help everyone cross safely.
5. When driving, be mindful of the crosswalks around our area and to please drive slowly and watch for students and families crossing the street.
Thank you for your help with these reminders.
GATE Testing
The 2020-2021 school year GATE identification test will be administered at the District Office for students currently in 2nd – 7th grade. The students will take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, OLSAT, that tests abstract thinking and reasoning ability. Students must attend one of the testing dates on the OLSAT Parent Permission Form in order to complete the testing by the district.
The Parent Permission Forms are on our district website @ www.rcsdk8.org Click on the Main Menu and then under Programs – Gifted and Talented Education. All forms must be returned to the District Office by December 20, 2019 if you would like your student tested. There are no exceptions as materials are ordered based on the number of returned forms. Make sure you check the RCSD website for more information regarding GATE services and testing.
