Week of April 16-20

Updates from our week at Diamond Creek
This week we had an exciting author visit at Diamond Creek.  Kate David, author of McKay and the Magical Hat and Murphy and the Magical Hat visited all of our students.  Kate is a local author who lives in the Sacramento area. She did an assembly with our K-2 students and also our 3-5 students. Both assemblies inspired the young writers we have at Diamond Creek! Students were able to see the work that Kate put into her writing through many revisions to finally have a finished, published book.  Many of our students brought home some of Kate's published books! We hope you enjoy reading these at home.

Our 3rd through 5th grade students have been completing practice CAASPP tests over the last few weeks as we gear up for our testing weeks ahead.  Our students will begin testing this week.  Each teacher has a testing schedule which they will share with you so that you know which days your child will specifically be testing.  We encourage our students to come to school with a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast so their brains are prepared to do the best they can during these tests.  Thank you for your help and support with this over the next few weeks.

CAASPP Testing
The CAASPP Testing window for our 3rd through 5th grade students will be open from April 16th through May 25th.  Each classroom teacher has an individual schedule of when their students will be testing in Math and Reading. Our 5th grade students also have a Science portion of the test. This is our California State Test that allows us to measure growth and provide instruction for areas that are not being met as well.  Please make sure your child has a good, healthy breakfast and is getting lots of sleep throughout these testing days.  Sleep and proper nutrition are very helpful in allowing our students to show their best ability on these assessments.

Thank you Kate David for visiting Diamond Creek this week and inspiring us as writers.
