WATCH D.O.G.S.
During the 2017-18 school year, Diamond Creek will be implementing a program called WATCH D.O.G.S.  This program is intended to bring our fathers and grandfathers into our classrooms to support education and safety.  Please check out the website linked below for more information.  We are looking for one of our fathers to be our "Top DOG" to help us organize this great program.  Please email Ms. Turry if you are interested in being the Top Dog.

  1. Based on the discussion articles, I'm wondering if you are considering discontinuing homework at Diamond Creek. If yes, I would be thrilled. I totally agree with the parent in one article that mentioned the worksheets "interfere with what he wants to do" which was read or PLAY! Another thing I think kids need more time for is chores. They need to learn what HOMEwork is all about--cleaning and caring for their space. Often no time is left for working as a family, playing as a family or just silent reading. Some of my kids need wind down time from "performance" at school. Some of that performance is academic, but sometimes it's social--they need a break from having to be "on" all the time, to keep from being teased or judged by peers. (This more affects my introvert child--and doesn't relate directly to homework I guess.) Just because there are no worksheets being done, doesn't mean learning is not taking place. For example, we work on math every time we bake or cook together. Music lessons and practice are also a big learning time in my home. Good for you for investigating and even considering this!
