Week of January 21-25

WEEKLY NEWS

It was a rainy, windy week at Diamond Creek! Our students were excited to finally be able to have some recess time outside on Thursday.  Although, I have learned to be thankful for the rain in California after my few years of living here.

All of our students attended our Pennies for Patients kick off assembly this week! You will have more information coming home with your child about our Pennies for Patients drive happening over the next few weeks.  Our students will eagerly be collecting coins that will be donated to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation and go directly to helping children with these forms of cancer.  We have set some high goals for our Diamond Creek team this year and hope we can help many other children.

Our next Village Rally is coming up this Wednesday, January 23rd! We can't wait to kick off Habit #4 with our students!

Our Open House date this year is May 16th! This is an evening we invite our families to come walk through your child's classroom to see all of the hard work they have on display to show you. This is also a great time to check out what other grade levels do throughout the year.  During this time we will also have our Spring Book Fair happening at Diamond Creek!  The Book Fair will happen from May15th through 17th after school, during lunch and during Open House.

Book Fair - May 15-17

Student Leadership
New this year at Diamond Creek we have Student Leadership opportunities available for all of our 3rd through 5th grade students.  Leadership jobs include tasks such as library helper, lunch room line helper, playground equipment helper, student ambassador for new students, DC news crew, social media interns, and more!! We started our Student Leadership group this year instead of Student Council as a way to encourage more of our students to be leaders in a variety of areas across Diamond Creek. A huge thank you to Mrs. Lopez and Ms. Triplett for organizing and leading this group of students.

Girls on the Run - REGISTRATION COMING UP ON MONDAY!!
We will be hosting a Girls on the Run team again at Diamond Creek this year.  Girls on the Run is available to all of our girls in Grades 3-5.  Registration opens on January 21st at 8:00 am. Each team may have up to 20 participants.

Girls on the Run is a program created to inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.  We can't wait for our girls to experience this team again this year!
